Though dating back to the 13th century, it lost the original plan (it was, in effect, destroyed and rebuilt more than once);at present, its got a rectangular plan with only two corner square towers and architectural elements from the 14th and 15th centuries (crenellated medial battlement). Surrounded by a large moat, once filled with water, it has two entrances that used to be supplied with drawbridges. The 18th century courtyard inside has a three-order colonnade and a staircase with two synthetic flights and balusters.
Inside the fortress the town hall offices and private houses are located (therefore upper floors cannot be visited).
