From the XIII century, Piazza Cavalli has been the most important economic and political centre of the city.
In this square there is the massive Palazzo Pubblico, traditionally called the Gothic Palace.
In front of the Gothic Palace there’s the Governor’s Palace built in 1787 with a design by the great architect Lotario Tomba.
On the sides of the square, paved in the last decade of the eighteenth century, there are two bronze equestrian statues of the Farnese dukes, commissioned by the Community of Piacenza to Francesco Mochi from Montevarchi.
