The Church of the Friars of Cortemaggiore was intended to house the Pallavicino Mausoleum.

The remains arrived, transported in 1499, from the Church of San Lorenzo, only to be moved again to a side chapel of the Collegiate Church. The latter transfer took place during the 19th century when Napoleon’s government declared the suppression of the convent and the adjoining church.
After the suppression
Since 1812, the date of the suppression of the Franciscan Order, the mausoleums of the Pallavicino family have been placed inside a Chapel in the Basilica of Santa Maria delle Grazie. The ark of Giovanni Ludovico Pallavicino and his wife Anastasia Torelli is one of the most interesting funerary monuments of the ‘Renaissance period.
