Three photography collectives strongly rooted in the territory: Cesura, TIFF and La Città Minaccia present at XNL Piacenza, directed for the art section by Paola Nicolin, the video and photography project
Photobuster Piacenza 2025
When: 7 February – 2 March 2025
Where: Via Santa Franca 36
The exhibition is part of the Photobuster project that started in 2009 with the Cesura group. The project starts with a 2-week artistic residency in a place, which becomes the protagonist of the artists’ work and ends with an exhibition.
In Piacenza the artists will be in residence from 8 to 19 January 2025. They will include: Arianna Arcara, Giorgio Dirindin, Chiara Fossati, Marco Zanella (Cesura), Dallavalle-Guerrieri, Elisabetta Granata, Patrizio Maiavacca, Marco Rigamonti (TIFF), Andrés E. Maloberti and Nicola Roda (La Città Minaccia).
During this residency, the artists will be involved in a collective workshop open to the public every afternoon until 19 January. During this period, they will work side by side with curator Alex Majoli, internationally renowned photographer, Magnum member since 2001 and co-founder of the Cesura collective. Together, they will create and select a series of images, both static and in motion, which will go to make up an exhibition that will open on 7 February at XNL Piacenza.
The subject of Cesura’s investigation will be the urban periphery of the logistical hub, the streets inhabited by new generations of teenagers and young women, unusual places such as nursing homes where the fragility of others is exposed to others, or symbolic places such as the city court.
The Threat City will focus its attention on the periphery to be understood as a social and cultural space far from the centre.
TIFF will explore man-made and partly abandoned landscapes as evidence of today’s complex relationship between man, nature and the city.
BIOGRAPHICAL REFERENCES
CESURA
CESURA is a collective of photographers producing projects in the field of documentary photography and visual research in the arts, founded in 2008. The workshop spirit, which allows the master to pass on his experience and knowledge to the pupil, fosters a climate of confrontation, criticism and construction through the direct experience of work and living together. They choose Pianello Val Tidone, a small village in the Piacenza hills, as their location, where direct contact with nature and distance from the bustling city life favour deep immersion in their artistic research. Cesura’s intent is to create an independent and autonomous force in the panorama of national and international photography.
Cesura Publish was founded in 2010 and began selling its first publications to guarantee the expressive autonomy of the collective’s authors and to promote the activities of its member photographers. Ten years later, it maintains its original values by publishing a selection of quality photo books as a result of the varied set of projects carried out by the photographers of CESURA.
Cesura Lab is a fine art printing laboratory where exhibition projects and experimentation with new creative processes are realised, allowing the authors to manage the entire printing process in-house from post-production to set-up.
LA CITTà MINACCIA
La Città Minaccia is an independent extra-urban collective founded in Val Trebbia, Emilia-Romagna, Italy, in 2022. The collective collects, promotes and produces art projects that investigate the theme of the complex relationship between man and nature, highlighting the emerging paradoxes produced by the globalised economy and the consumer market.
TIFF COLLECTIVE
The TIFF Collective is the brainchild of a group of friends with long experience in the world of photography, both amateur and professional. Some members come from previous experiences in other photography groups. The purpose of the group is to promote the dissemination of knowledge, history and evolution of the photographic and visual arts, and to organise courses, workshops and exhibitions. A searchable archive full of dedicated magazines, texts and books is also available to members at its headquarters.
The collective also includes the Spazio BFT gallery, a dynamic space that hosts meetings and exhibitions throughout the year, offering further opportunities for discussion and cultural growth.
