The building, completed in 1884, celebrates the appearance of the Virgin Mary in 1496. The sanctuary, designed by Guglielmo della Cella, is in neo-Romanesque style with a façade of white and black stones.
Inside, the sanctuary preserves interesting frescoes by Luciano Ricchetti, sculptures by Paolo Perotti (1970) and Giorgio Groppi (1987), and the beautiful wrought-iron gate by the artisan Leonardi from Grazzano Visconti.
The sanctuary is still visited by pilgrims especially during the month dedicated to Beata Vergine della Quercia, saint patron of Nure valley, from the end of August to the end of September.
