The city of Piacenza preserves a superb work by Botticelli, the so called Tondo.
It represents the Virgin, kneeling, in the act of adoring the Child with little Saint John the Baptist. A beautiful rose garden is in the background .
We don’t know who ordered the painting and for what reason, and researchers have made several hypotheses about the date of the painting. What is certain is the first documented evidence of its existence in 1642. Restored in 2004 and brought back to its splendour, the Tondo is currently preserved in Palazzo Farnese Art Gallery.
