A new THE MAN OF PEACE BY FRANCO SCEPI three meters high, a sculpture symbol of the artist Franco Scepi, was inaugurated on November 23rd, 2017 in the garden in front of the Basilica of San Colombano of Bobbio, on a project by the architect Marcello Spigaroli
The work was born in 1977 during a trip to Krakow where the artist met Karol Wojtyła, who later became Pope. Inspired by the words of Wojtyla, he created an oil painting representing an asexual human being from whose head a dove came out to drag away sickle and hammer (symbol of Russian communism). This symbol followed an autonomous path, undergoing several modifications. Gorbachev made it a conclusive emblem of the twentieth century, adopting it for the world summits of the Nobel Prizes for Peace
In the new version exposed to Bobbio, the dove overlaps the sky, destroying its materialization and transforming itself into energy in space. The prestigious work of Scepi was inaugurated in conjunction with the celebrations dedicated to San Colombano, Patron Saint of Europe and Bobbio, the missionary monk who saved much of the European culture with the meticulous copying of ancient texts.
The work is exhibited in the garden in front of the Basilica di San Colombano.
