The fortress was ordered by Rolando Pallavicino, who built it in1420, maybe exploiting the structure of an ancient castle. Such structure affects the centre of the built-up area and has a square plan with round towers at the corners and two towers at the entrance, where the remains of an ancient drawbridge may be noticed. Inside, the most important room is Bonifacio Bembos Chapel. The cellars host the Po Ethnographic museum, the acquarium and the Peasant and Craftsmen world Museum. Important and local exhibitions take place in the inner ward (Garlic Exhibition and Geranium Stall).
