Museum of the Resistance

Museums and Galleries
Sperongia, museo della resistenza

The Museum of the Resistance in Piacenza is located in Sperongia, a hamlet of Morfasso. Inaugurated in 2009, the museum was opened in this location to pay homage to this area of the Val d’Arda, which was the birthplace of some of the first partisan groups in Piacenza. In fact, it was in Sperongia, 100 metres from the church, in the Croci family’s inn, that a small part of the Piacenza Resistance was born.

The museum

The museum contains memorabilia (weapons, bomb fragments, caps and other original clothing), images, documents, information, biographies and memories. Among the various memorabilia are parts of a Bristol Beaufighter aircraft, the famous Pippo, which crashed in the vicinity during the war.
The Museum of the Piacenza Resistance has explanatory panels illustrating various topics such as the Resistance in the four Piacenza valleys and the lowlands, round-ups, deportations, the role of the civilian population and mountain priests, and the fundamental contribution of women.
Some interactive panels allow visitors to scroll through a map of the province, focusing on specific events that can be explored in greater depth through photographs, testimonies and period documents.

Activities

The museum can host various initiatives, including educational activities for schools of all levels and film screenings.
It is also possible to organise meetings between school groups and a partisan to hear first-hand accounts of experiences relating to the local Resistance and to consult the official database of partisans.
