Santa Margherita complex in Piacenza is an uncommon example of restoration and preservation of stratified relics from the two-thousand year old past of the city itself. It is a corner of the historical centre which unveils a superposition of key building processes witnessing the development of Piacenza through time, from the Roman period to the Middle Ages and further on to the Baroque age.
The restoration
The restoration activity started with the preservation of Santa Margherita church – which is now a meeting venue with a rich calendar of events and public initiatives – and ended with the inauguration of the ANTIQUARIUM.
Santa Margherita Antiquarium
Here visitors can follow in the footsteps of the development of this area from the first settlers to today’s times through the exhibition of selected findings and informative boards, all set up in a fascinating atmosphere.
