Its the only church in Piacenza whose foundations have been brought back to light. The façade is in Borromini’s baroque style, i.e. a little concave in the centre, while inside its characterized by stuccoed side chapels, barrel vaults and a frescoed sanctuary. Its most remarkable aspect is that the lower building layers are oucropping in the area around the entrance: 13th century firebrick column bases and foundations made of Roman time large bricks. Another astonishing aspect is the ancient temple located under the presbitery and previous to the year 1000; this was probably the early-Christian church dedicated to Santa Liberata. The church is now hosting the auditorium of Fondazione della Cassa di Risparmio.
