Until 68 A.D., Piacenza hoasted an amphitheater.

It was placed outside of the city walls, on the banks of the river Po. According to may sources, it was one of the most impressive monument of Italy.
It got burned and completely destroyed by the General Cecina. He was chosen by the new emperor Ottone to come over Italy, with the purpose to win on Vitellio’s army, which was walled exactly in Piacenza.
He had to struggel entering into the city, which was clearly sided with the enemy.

The General Cecina took revenge by destroying the wonderful amphitheater.
Bytheway many historians supposed and explained how this event happened; probably the fire was organised by the help of many neighbouring towns, jelous of Piacenza’s prosperity time.
