The Bobbio Film Festival takes place every year in the splendid setting of Bobbio, one of the most beautiful villages in Italy.
The event started back in 1995 thanks to an idea of the director Marco Bellocchio, a native ot the Emilian village and awarded on July 2021 the Golden Palm for Lifetime Achievement during the 74th Cannes Film Festival.
In addition to the creation of the cinematographic laboratory “Fare Cinema” aimed at young and future filmakers, the well-known director offers a full calendar of films open to the public.
The element that perhaps most characterizes this important film festival is the after screening, when Bellocchio, sometimes together with a film critic, meets the director and the actors of the film in a participatory dialogue with the public, who can then ask questions to those on stage.
Increasingly important, in 2005 the event changed its name and officially became Bobbio Film Festival.
In such a long period of time, many actors and directors have decided to come to Bobbio to present their films, or to discuss some of the themes touched by the various films: from the director of the Venice Film Festival Marco Müller to the critics Morando Morandini and Tatti Sanguineti; from the directors Mario Monicelli, Abel Ferrara, Zhang Yuan, to Carlo Verdone, Paolo Sorrentino, Matteo Garrone. Among the actors stand out the names of Stefania Sandrelli, Valeria Golino, Sergio Castellitto, Isabella Ferrari, Donatella Finocchiaro, Corrado Guzzanti, Elio Germano and Riccardo Scamarcio.
The film projections traditionally take place in the cloister of St. Columba’s Abbey, at 9.15 pm.
