Dante and the Divine Comedy
When: from 18 December 2026 to 18 April 2027
Where: XNL Piacenza, Via Santa Franca, 36
A journey through the Divine Comedy, from the darkness of the dark forest to the light of Paradise, centred on one of the most precious treasures of Piacenza’s cultural heritage: the Landian Codex, the oldest dated copy of the poem to have survived to the present day (dating from 1336), held by the Passerini-Landi Municipal Library in Piacenza.
The exhibition features more than forty works, as well as multimedia installations, sounds and images, to guide visitors through the three canticles and make the poetic, philosophical and human richness of Dante’s work accessible to a wide range of audiences.
The exhibition is divided into three parts: the journey through Dante’s Inferno, a reflection on the transience of earthly possessions; the ascent up the palace’s grand staircase, mirroring the climb up the mountain of Purgatory, transforming the visitor’s physical movement into part of the narrative; finally, the first floor featuring Paradise, evoked through light-coloured surfaces, reflections and plays of light, in a gradual lightening of forms that will guide the public up to the Heaven of the Fixed Stars and the Empyrean.
