Interesting path for those who wish to explore the steep environment of middle Nure Valley, constituted of robust rocks in calcareous flysch from Farini. The sedimented strata in this place, regularly alternated in thick and thin layers, resurface in the most spectacular way on the beautiful northern slope of Mount Penna in Groppoducale, as well as deep down in Nure Valley.
Moreover, in Nure Valley such high and steep slopes cannot be found anywhere else within the water basin, not even at the source of Nure river itself.N.043 ITINERARY Fontanavento (mt.500), Costa della Franca, Monte Penna di Groppo Ducale (mt.1199), Montelana (mt. 1008). Along the path, at the feet of Costa di Groppoducale, the hiker will meet several open spaces and huts once used by coalmen for their work (they had to watch over the charcoal kiln without going back to sleep in the village). From some parts of M. Penna’s woody crest it is possible to enjoy beautiful views of Padana Valley (The peak hasn’t got a very clear prophile, and enjoying the view from the top may be difficult due to thick vegetation ). In Montelana the path meets Nure /Arda Crest itinerary (see Paths from the past: From Arda to Nure Valley). This itinerary can be always done throughout the year, and it has been discovered and marked by OTP GEA.
