The building recalls an anecdote regarding Piacenzas bishop, Mons. Antonio Ranza: in May 1860 he retreated in Travazzano Castle, in order not to be obliged to celebrate solennial religious rites for Vittorio Emanuele 2nd’s visit to Piacenza; therefore he was taken, disguised, to Masana castle to avoid his arrest. The only remainder of the original fortress, presently used as rural house, is one of the four towers.
