The Pontieri monument was inaugurated on 29th May 1928 in front of King Vittorio Emanuele II, it is a large monumental complex that celebrates Reggimento Genio Pontieri Lagunari. The designer was the young artist Mario Salazzari, enlisted with Reggimento Pontieri, and it celebrates the heroic actions of soldiers in the First World War, as well as the help that Genio Pontieri provided in case of calamities that plagued the city. In White marble, 16 metres tall, the monument shows an evident Art Nouveau influence with allegorical representations of Isonzo and Piave rivers, and the enterprises of Pontieri during the war. The Roman Goddess overlooks the marble group, holding the Winged Victory in her hand.
