In the village of Vigoleno, the 900th anniversary of the Pieve di San Giorgio is going to be celebrated. The small building, which can still be visited, was founded in the 12th century, using local stone. Today’s appearance is still that of a Romanesque parish church. In the lunette above the entrance there is a character on horseback striking a dragon to death.
The identification with Saint George seems obvious. Other images dedicated to the Saint are present inside the church, rich in fresco fragments and provided with ancient capitals among which the one representing the two-tailed mermaid stands out.
The celebrations are held from April 23rd to 25th. A whole weekend of celebrations, games, visits, excursions, concerts and tastings.
