Giuseppe” Pino” Dordoni was born on the 28th June 1926 in Piacenza and He died in the same city on the 24th October 1998.
His life as a sportman
He was one of the most important Italian winner in the race walking. He won the gold medal in the 50 km race walking during the Olympic Games in Helsinki in 1952.
The Career of Giuseppe” Pino” Dordoni
During his lucky career, Giuseppe won 24 national sporting competitions on different races, mainly during the years between 1946 to 1957.
Among them:
– 11 awards on 10km ( 10 straight from 1946 to 1955 and the last in 1957)
– 6 awards on 20km ( from 1952 to 1957) and some more.
– 5 awards in 1949-50 and in 1952-1954 on the longest distance.
Along his career he played 600 races, winning 502 of them. He took part to 4 different Olympic Games.
After he announced his retirement, he became the supervisor of the Italian national team of race walking.
In this role he took part to 7 other edition of the Olympic Games.
Considering his commitment to the Italian Team, his unique style and what he achived, in 1981 he was appointed as a “Commendatore Ordine al merito” of the Italian Republic.
Giuseppe ” Pino” Dordoni spent his last years in his hometown. Actually Piacenza city dedicated a running track in Mattei street. This spot it’s still representing a landmark for the local athletics.
