Giuseppe Ricci Oddi, a nobleman from Piacenza (1868-1937), was a careful collector with a great sensitivity and a precise artistic taste.
He improved his skills through many experiences between talks with expert advisors, during many years studying artists and visiting exhibitions, reading books and art magazines.
Later he realised his will to donate his art collection to Piacenza; Giuseppe Ricci Oddi built at his own expense the building where the Modern Gallery is still located today.
The current Modern Gallery is still titled to him.
