The mighty dam that blocks the Arda torrent and forms the Mignano lake was built between 1919 and 1934, on the torrent side close by the homonymous village of Mignano.
Its original scope was to create a basin for the production of hydroelectric energy, but later on the lake was transformed into a water reservoir for the villages in Pianura Padana down the valley. Today, the lake still fulfils this role.
The lake is 341 m above sea level and extends over 2 square kilometres.
