Typical cookies from San Nicolò village, precisely from the Mamago area, the “Busslanein” (traditional little donuts) are still nowadays sold in sugar or sugar-free versions, hard or crumbly.
The Busslanein history
In the past they were diffused all around the Tidone valley, from where they come from. These cookies were given by the godparents to the confirmands, who were wearing long bandoleer necklaces. They were made in their short version too, called ” brasadei”. Well known since the XIV Century, the monks of San Savino used to homage the canons of the Cathedral.
Since 1993, the Pro Loco Association of San Nicolò has organised in June the traditional fair ” Fiera del Busslanein”, special occasion in which it’s possible to buy the famous donuts.
